In order to set the machine as a 1 piece package we will require some rigging. The rigging can be supplied by the crane operator or you could build and keep a re-usable set of spreaders. Keep in mind that crane time is EXPENSIVE! If this machine ends up at 110,000# we will need the biggest of the big cranes from the twin cities. Probably a second crane to act as a counterweight. Even with that the crane is going to have to be able to get in pretty close to the final resting place of the machine. That will be around $500 - $600 per hour and that includes drive time and set up time.

Guys,
I have revised the base using W shaped beams and L’s. This base is stronger than needed for machine operation due to transport and erection needs. In order to be able to crane this thing into place as a unit it has to be pretty stiff or we will end up damaging the main tube above (for the most part the thin skin on the outside of the tube would buckle). About half of the “X” bracing could be removed after the machine is in place. This would allow for greater access by service personnel. The wrap for the base will be in 12 foot sections. I think we can ship it with all but 4 of the sections on the base. This configuration weighs about 15,000#.

Here is a rendering of the base wrapped in a corrugated steel.

I would like to get your opinion of this concept. I have put a skirting around the entire base assy. This provides a great deal of safety to the user of this machine and I think it is a nice look as well. It also allows us to build the actual base for strength vs. aesthetics.

Guys,
here is a different design with no pipe bracing and center supports added. Not complete yet but I wanted to update you as I progress.

I am working on a 1 piece base design. This is being done to simplify the erection process as well as aesthetics. This design will have a higher fabrication cost due to HSS tube being used VS. pipe, as well as some added weight. I will provide a breakdown of the price / weight difference when completed.
